Taylor Swift has made history at the Grammy Awards 2024 by becoming the first artist to win the award for Best Album of the Year four times for her album Midnights.
This is stated in the official announcement of the music award.
At Sunday’s ceremony, Taylor Swift received the prestigious music prize for Album of the Year from Celine Dion, who unexpectedly appeared on stage despite reports of health complications almost a year after she was forced to cancel all her concerts due to a diagnosed rare neurological disorder.
In turn, Taylor Swift used this event to unexpectedly present her next new music album.
Famous Australian star Kylie Minogue won her second ever Grammy Award on Sunday, two decades after the first, for Best Dance Pop Recording for Padam Padam, the viral hit that became a global “explosion” last year.
The most popular Grammy awards of 2024 went to:
- Album of the Year – Taylor Swift, Midnights
- Record of the Year – Miley Cyrus, Flowers
- Song of the Year – Billie Eilish, What Was I Made For?
- Best New Artist – Victoria Monet.
The award recognised Billie Eilish’s contribution to the soundtrack to the Barbie film, What Was I Made For? The tune also won the award for Best Song Written for Visual Media, and the Barbie album, produced by Mark Ronson, won the award for Best Visual Media Soundtrack Compilation.
The award for Record of the Year went to Miley Cyrus’ Flowers, which also won Best Pop Vocal Performance.
Overall, this year’s Grammy show in Los Angeles was dominated by women, the BBC reports.
These were rhythm and blues stars SZA and Victoria Monet, all-female indie supergroup Boygenius received numerous awards, and music icons Tracy Chapman and Joni Mitchell made rare and poignant performances.
Killer Mike was the top male winner, taking home three rap trophies. However, his success was somewhat overshadowed by a backstage altercation that resulted in him being “criminally charged with a misdemeanour,” according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
